Flash Gamers Report

According to some industry estimates, online gamers are already playing about 200 million rounds of Flash games each month. The question is...Can online gaming and advertising co-exist, or will gamers tune out the ad-supported games at too intrusive? Google will soon find out, with the beta rollout of AdSense for Games software. Before launching the beta, Google reportedly tested in-game ads with partners that included Playfish, the creator of games such as "Who Has the Biggest Brain?" on Facebook.

The vehicle that pioneered the cute-ute segment is all grown up. Ever since its last total overhaul (for the 2006 model year), the Toyota RAV4 has offered seating for seven, cargo capacity comparable to some mid-size SUVs, and V6 performance near the top of its class.

Loss Privacy Data Capturing

living life through data and capturing equipment can lead to a true loss of privacy. Let's explore this dichotomy a bit further. We do not have to miss our kids' activities, family events or other social activities because of work. Instead, we show up, while still being able to coordinate work matters through our handheld. While it may be annoying to have to deal with work matters while at a non-work event (and it can be annoying to others when they have to overhear our work calls or when they face our work distraction), at least we can make it to that event.Teleworking has a number of advantages. It cuts down on lost commute time, decreases traffic congestion and related pollution, and it allows workers to be closer to home to attend to family and other personal matters. Furthermore, in the event of a disaster, the fact that workers are not at their places of employment increases the chances that these teleworking can continue the functions of their company.

Technorati's Challenge

Technorati's technical failures often have two components: the failure itself and management’s subsequent handling of the incident. Although uncontrolled technical failures can occur under the best of circumstances, end-user satisfaction is usually a function of management rather than technology.

In this case, Technorati handled the incident well. The company:

* Acknowledged the full scope of the problem
* Took immediate corrective action once they realized the problem existed
* Provided context regarding why the problem was hard to solve
* Protected the company’s credibility (I call this “intelligent CYA”)
* Described symptoms the customer might experience, in jargon-free terms
* Presented their problem resolution strategy
* Demonstrated responsible and professional analysis

Technorati’s short blog post explained an arcane problem, helped calm jumpy users, covered the company’s collective butt, and showed the place is run by pros. I’m impressed.

Start Your Own Home Based Business

I got two businesses in that time period. In the first business, I ran after school enrichment classes. I hired a staff and they taught the classes. It was a great headache. Every afternoon I was worried that I’d get a call that a teacher did not show up. As upsetting was the fact that even though I signed up a lot of schools at which to run classes many of these schools could not fill the classes so even though I took the time to find the teacher for the class the class didn’t run. Two people were upset, me and the teacher. A little more than two years ago, I started a second business. This business so far has been more successful. I’m developing curriculum and offering professional development. (Before I began my first business I worked for a doctorate in Curriculum, Teaching and Educational Policy.) I’ve been fortunate to have some of my writing published in the last year. But, you are completly correct, it’s not easy. Sometimes I think I’m over motivated, it’s now 7pm and I’ve gotten up once since I sat down after lunch at 1:15pm. Fortunately, I enjoy what I do. (I’m having a good time writing this comment, and I very much consider it marketing. I’m hoping that readers will check out my blog.)
